We still have 4 weeks of school left and the learning continues. Please help us reinforce to your children the importance of pushing hard to the finish line and being proud of their efforts. There is a Love and Logic concept called “attribution theory.” We must remind children to “attribute” their success to their effort. Because it is sometimes natural for kids to think they get “lucky” when they have success, we adults must continue to reinforce to them that their success is completely dependent on how hard they work. It is healthy for kids to grow up knowing that things don’t usually just happen – but rather, happen as a result of choices they make. Whether we’re talking about getting to school ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, working hard during math instruction or being kind to others, kids need to understand the important relationship between their effort and their success. I firmly believe that 100% of our students can learn at high levels when they try hard.

As we wind down the 15-16 school year I want to thank all of our parents who supported Lincoln School this year. It really does take a village to raise a child and your support is so much appreciated. I would also like to tell you about teaching assignments for next year.

In Kindergarten, Becky Kornell and Melanie Fletcher will share a classroom. The other Kindergarten teachers will be Mandie Arai-Green and Megan Tollefson.

Kristin Andre and Pam Wisneski will join Michelle Haagen and teach first grade next year.

Second grade teachers will be Lisa MacKintosh and Kelly Draper.

Lisa Bradstreet will teach third grade again next year. We currently have two third grade open positions that we hope to get filled soon.

Kelli Wilder will once again teach grade four and we currently have a fourth grade open position. We also have a 4/5 combination classroom open position.

Kristi Ryan and Erin Honeycutt will teach grade five, and we currently have a grade five open position.

Jo Lynn Sargent and Elaine Fritschie will be back in our Structured Learning Centers and Crislee Zadrozny will once again teach Learning Support. Lisa Seton will take Developmental Skills and we will have a brand new Developmental Skills class coming to Lincoln.

Brad Hoke, Jackie Tyler and Kathy Johnson will retire after long careers at Lincoln and in Vancouver Public Schools. We will miss them, but wish them well in their retirement. Devon Crane will be in a new position next year as well.

Our Counselor, Anne Park, and our psychologist, Deana Kahn, have both taken positions in other schools. We will miss them both very much.

Becky Arai, our literacy facilitator, is retiring after a long and successful career in VPS. We wish her the best. Our kitchen manager, Judi Peterson, has taken a manager position at a middle school.

It has been another amazing year of learning here at Lincoln. I am proud of what our school team has accomplished. On behalf of the entire staff, have a great summer and I hope to see everyone back at Lincoln in the fall. And as always, if you plan on moving next year, please let our office staff know right away.
