Dear Lincoln families,

Happy summer from Lincoln School! I hope things are going well and you are enjoying your summer with family and friends. Once again, summer is going by way too fast and before you know it school will be back in session. My job allows me to have the month of July off, and my wife, Lorie, and our two kids, Michael and Maria, spend as much time together as we can. The kids are growing older, though, and those times together are becoming rarer. Enjoy them while they’re young!

The office staff is hard at work preparing everything for staff members, students and parents. The building looks clean and beautiful thanks to our custodial staff. We are putting together recess and lunch schedules, arts block schedules, literacy blocks, placing students into classrooms, handing out supplies, hiring new staff members, working on budgets and more. It is a very busy time of year for us. We always do look forward to that first day of school when we get to reconnect with our students and parents.

Lincoln continues to have an exceptional group of staff members. They are dedicated to their jobs and make every effort to create a culture of universal achievement. Our school climate is warm and friendly and we take great pride in the excellent relationships we have with our families. We have a Lincoln parent and staff group (LPSG) that meets regularly to plan activities that benefit our students and their families. Parent support remains high at Lincoln and we value our parents who find time to partner with us to achieve excellence in every way.

Our mission at Lincoln Elementary School is to ensure high levels of learning for all students in an environment that embraces equity, safety, respect and celebrations of success.

How can you help? Here’s how …

Have your child in school ALL DAY, EVERY DAY! All the research says that children who miss 9 days or less during the school year are at a huge advantage when it comes to learning. Consequently, only 17% of kids who are chronically absent will read at level when they get to third grade and beyond.

We will host our annual Back to School Night/Ice-Cream Social for Lincoln families on Monday, August 27 from 5:30-6:30 PM. At 5:30, parents and students should enter the gymnasium from the backside of the school – signs will be posted. Class lists will be in the gym on the walls. Parents and students should then proceed to the cafeteria and have a seat. I will introduce our staff to you at 5:45, and then you will proceed to the classrooms to visit your child’s teacher. At 6:00, I will make an announcement over the intercom and everyone will go onto the playground for ice cream.

As with any school event in the evening, all students must be accompanied by their parent/guardian.

Regular school office hours are from 8:00-4:15. We can help if you would like to update phone numbers, immunization records, or simply ask questions that you may have about the upcoming school year.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 29. School hours are as follows:

All Grades                                9:00 AM-3:30 PM

On the first day of school, your child will receive and bring home a red “Lincoln Logger Folder” with important information about our school. You can expect your child to bring this home every Thursday of the school year. They should always be returned to school on Fridays. Please read the information thoroughly and contact your child’s teacher or the school office if you have any questions.

On behalf of the entire Lincoln staff, welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Back to School Night/Ice-Cream Social on Monday, August 27 at 5:30 PM.

Sincerely,

Craig Homnick

Lincoln Principal
